From The Boot By Hannahlee Allers
Lizzie Sider is set to be honored as a HateBraker Hero at the upcoming HateBraker Hero Awards on May 19 in St. Louis, Mo.
The 15-year-old country artist is being recognized for her anti-bullying campaign, the Nobody Has The Power to Ruin Your Day Tour. She has toured schools in California, Florida and Texas sharing her own personal story to spread awareness and help stop bullying. By the end of the 2013-2014 school year, Sider will have met over 100,000 students on the campaign.
In addition to being named a HateBraker Hero, Sider will be the featured entertainment at the awards ceremony. She is set to perform ‘Butterfly,’ which she co-wrote about overcoming her own experiences with bullying when she was younger.
“Lizzie mustered the courage to rise above bullying and tell her story to the world,” says Susan Balk, Founding Director of HateBrakers. “Whenever a room full of children hear her sing ‘Butterfly,’ about how she stopped hiding and learned to fly, they understand that they can do it too. She’s a powerhouse of healing, and she’s not even old enough to drive.”
Sider will be performing at the 2014 CMA Music Fest in June in Nashville. She is currently working on her first full-length studio album, which is set for release later this year.
