LIZZIE BRINGS ANTI-BULLYING PROGRAM TO GERMANTOWN

Lizzie Sider, a 16-year-old singer and YouTube sensation from South Florida, has been touring around the country performing a bullying prevention program for elementary and middle schools and on Thursday, Nov. 13 she appeared at Germantown Elementary.

Sider’s breakout hit, “Butterfly” has over 1 million views on YouTube.com was written in response to her personal experience of being bullied in elementary school.

Germantown Elementary Principal Amy Bryant arranged for Sider, who performs for free, to perform fourth and fifth graders at Germantown Elementary and invited fifth graders from neighboring Capt. James Daly, Fox Chapel, and Christa McAuliffe elementary schools.

During the performance, Sider shared her bullying story with the students, discussed some of the reasons why some students might be bullies. The heavy message of the program was lightened when she asked teachers from all the schools and students to join her “band.” The volunteers were given instruments, maracas, tambourines, and shakers as she sang and danced her way around the Germantown school gym.

One of the special parts of Sider’s presentation is the fact that she individually greeted each of the students as they left the assembly, chatting and posing for photos.

Sider, who has appeared on Entertainment Tonight, Fox News, and the Queen Latifah Show, and whose second single “I Love You Too Much” has charted in the Top 40 on Nashville’s Music Row Chart, will perform in Clarksburg at Rocky Hill Middle School on Tuesday, Nov. 18 as well as elementary schools in Rockville and Gaithersburg.
